USEFUL INFORMATION
July 21, 2020Launch of the Rab Archaeological (T)races project
The Rab Archaeological (T)races project was launched at a press conference on 4 June 2020 in DeltaLab in Rijeka. With this project, the island of Rab joined the Rijeka 2020 – European Capital of Culture project within the ‘27 Neighbourhoods’ programme.
This original project, guided by the idea of learning about cultural heritage, connects heritage, sports and education, and promotes the benefits of being in the natural environment and engaging in leisure time activities. Recreational and professional athletes, adventurers and families can now visit some of the most beautiful parts of the island of Rab and experience the hidden riches of the island’s cultural heritage, enjoying the peace and scenic beauty of unspoiled nature. This project includes 33 locations in a kind of open-air museum, presenting the archaeological, religious and ethnographic heritage hidden among untouched landscapes. All sites are connected by three educational trails at a total length of about 40 km stretching over the areas of Lopar, Supetarska Draga and Kampor.
Besides the well-marked sites and trails for hikers and cyclists, an individual tour of the trails is
possible thanks to a website with all the relevant information, a printed map, and other promotional materials prepared as part of the project. In addition, an interactive mobile app is planned as an upgrade of this initiative.
The project was presented to the media by Ivan Šarar, Head of the Department of Culture of the City of Rijeka and also President of the Rijeka 2020 Supervisory Board, Sonja Šišić, the County Head of Culture, Sports and Technical Culture, Emina Višnjić, Director of EPK Rijeka 2020, the Mayor of Rab, Nikola Grgurić, the Deputy Mayor of Lopar, Dominik Paparić, the Director of the Lopar Cultural Centre and the project team leader, Tonka Kavran, and the marketing manager of Rab Tourist Board, Luka Perčinić.
